As a native of Long
Island's North Fork, Lisa has seen much of the area that she holds
near and dear to her heart disappear forever to development. Lisa's
grandparents and great-grandparents came to the North Fork to farm
at the turn of the last century, from their homeland of Poland and
Eastern Europe. Her Grandfather, John "Joe" Jackowski, was
a Long Island Duck Farmer and a founder of the Long Island Duck Co-op in
Riverhead. One of his farms is
now part of the much-debated EPCAL / Grumman property in Calverton
(the Navy forced the sale of the land back in the early 1950's). Her
Grandmother, Mary Zylniewicz Jackowski, was born on the west side of
present-day Hallockville Museum Farm in Riverhead (where Lisa's
Great-Grandparents Magdelina and Jan Zylniewicz worked on the farm). Lisa's
other Great-Grandparents,
Josef and Ewa Prusinowski farmed in Aquebogue (their house still
stands on Shade Tree Lane).
Lisa A. Dabrowski
is a true believer of open space conservation. Whether it be
farmland, woodland, or wetland - Lisa seeks to help in it's
preservation. Lisa enjoys nature and wildlife, as well as raising
farm animals and farming. She worked in Wildlife / Animal Control
and as a "Canine Caretaker" for the Town of Southold, as well as
such places as Long Island Game Farm, Aquebogue Veterinary Hospital,
and Cornell / Suffolk County Farm. As an avid NYS DEC licensed
hunter and trapper, Lisa is very comfortable walking through
woodland and often captures nature in her photographs and poetry. As
a volunteer for The Friends of the Big Duck and Hallockville Museum
Farm, Lisa gives educational presentations with her pet ducks. This
love of nature is reflected in her work.
